We planted 915 European beech trees in Forstenrieder Park

Our Idea

Together with Bergwaldprojekt e.V., we planted native European beech trees in Forstenrieder Park in Munich in 2026, contributing to the stabilisation of the forest ecosystem. The long-term goal is to help create resilient mixed forests. At a time when forests face increasing pressure from climate change, drought and pest infestations, young tree saplings can contribute to ecological balance.

The Project

Forests are among the most important ecosystems on our planet. They filter the air, store water, capture CO₂ and provide habitats for countless animal and plant species. They also protect soil from erosion, regulate temperatures and serve as vital recreational spaces for people.

However, many forests including the Forstenrieder Park are increasingly experiencing stress. Longer dry periods, strong winds, pest pressure and uniform tree population reduce their stability and resilience.

Planting native and climate-resilient tree species such as the European beech is an active contribution to ecological forest transformation. Young trees promote biodiversity, strengthen the forest’s resilience and help the ecosystem adapt to changing environmental conditions in the long term.

Every newly planted tree creates valuable habitat and is a direct contribution to protecting and preserving nature.

Our Mission

On Thursday, 12 March 2026, we planted native beech trees in Munich’s Forstenrieder Park as part of our Corporate Volunteering Day. Working in groups of two or three, we placed seedling after another into the soil.

Before planting, we thoroughly loosened the ground to ensure the roots have enough space and nutrients to grow.
The small trees were carefully placed into the prepared holes. It was especially important to plant them deep enough so they would be stable and wouldn’t dry out. Afterwards, we filled the soil back in and pressed it down firmly to remove air pockets and ensure good root-to-soil contact.
With a quick pull test, we checked whether each sapling was securely anchored in the ground.
At the end of the day, we also had the chance to visit the trees from our earlier volunteering effort. The young beeches from 2023 are now standing strong against wind and weather: A motivating reminder of the long-term impact of our commitment.

Through our joint planting effort, 915 new trees were planted that day. Our trees now contribute to enriching the forest areas of Forstenrieder Park, increasing biodiversity and building a more resilient mixed forest for the future.
