First physical biomethane delivery in Poland: bmp greengas and HANDEN supply industrial customer with green gas

Munich, 24 September 2025 – For the first time, physically delivered biomethane is being used in Poland. This milestone was made possible by bmp greengas GmbH, a Munich-based biomethane trader operating across Europe, in cooperation with the Polish energy wholesaler HANDEN Sp. z o.o. The green gas is being used in the production process of a global skincare company.

As part of its sustainability strategy and efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, the internationally operating industrial company has decided to switch its production processes in Poland entirely to biomethane for the first time in 2025. From January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026, bmp greengas has been covering the company’s annual gas demand through a sales partnership with HANDEN, which is also part of the VNG Group. The supply consists of 19.8 GWh of European biomethane, sustainably certified and sourced from residual and waste materials.

“Thanks to the import and physical delivery of biomethane – fully certified under the ISCC EU scheme – green gas has been supplied for the first time to an industrial customer in Poland” – says Jakub Garus, Head of Portfolio at HANDEN. „This milestone sets a new direction for the Polish gas market and could serve as a catalyst for the development of biomethane infrastructure nationwide. Although there is only one biomethane plant connected to the national gas grid, we believe that upcoming legislative and market developments will accelerate the adoption of green fuels such as biomethane.”
