Supporting alpine farmers

Clearing alpine pastures to
maintain traditional landscapes

Our contribution

We spent our 2024 Corporate Volunteering Day helping with alpine pasture clearing. The aim of this work is to maintain open mountain pastures. Regular maintenance helps prevent overgrowth and provides the basis for species-rich habitats. At the same time, it helps preserve traditional alpine landscapes that are home to a wide variety of plants and animals.

Our mission

On the 6th of June we spent a special day at the Kotalm alp near Brauneck in Lenggries to support the alpine farmers in the labour-intensive task of alpine pasture management. With the help of 20 volunteers from bmp, we were able to make a significant contribution to the preservation of this unique ecosystem.

The day started at a meeting point in Lenggries, from where we hiked together for 1.5 hours to the location at Kotalm. Equipped with scythes, spatulas and pliers, we cleared the pasture of thorn bushes, weeds and gentian.

This demanding task required endurance, strength and teamwork. Despite the physical effort, the work was rewarding and fun.

Of course we captured our impressions and experiences. Enjoy browsing through them!
